Didn't sleep to well last night, but that's normal in a strange bed. Still surprisingly in sync with local time though!
Just had the traditional first breakfast of a real bacon toastie, so now off to explore!

Quick wander around Flinders Street. Few photos taken. Unfortunately, the photos won't be up till after I get back to the secret location.
I'm writing this update from the viewing level on the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower. The lifts do 88 floors in about 30 seconds. Some great views over Melbourne and finally a chance to play with the new lens. Will be back later this evening for Melbourne by Night.
Time for a drink now. Fed Square is Oz's largest free wifi hotspot, so a chance to check email and get these updates loaded.
Update: 1500
Just been to the Old Melbourne Gaol. This is where Ned Kelly was hanged for murder.
Tiny cells with nothing but a thin cushion as a mattress. Almost reminds me of the student accommodation when I looked around York University!
They still have the scaffold from which Ned was hanged. In a rather morbid twist it was moved to a different jail some years ago, the worked bring done by a carpenter who'd been convicted of rape. He was hanged from his own installation shortly after! I think the person who moved the installation back to the Old Melbourne Gaol didn't meet the same fate!
Time for a nice cold beer now I think!

Finished a complete circuit of the City Circle tram line. Free (yes, free) service that runs around the outside of the city centre using old trams. Now enjoying a nice cold pint of Stone & Wood Pale Lager. Next plan is back to the hotel, have some food then back to Eureka Tower on time for sunset and night photos.
Update: 2300
Not the beat of sunsets this evening. Didn't really get the red sky you normally associate with a sunset; was more a yellow glow. Sadly, the windows at the Eureka tower don't help photographers. Was having a lot of trouble with reflections, especially from the kiosks!
Still, that's the thing with nature... It's unpredictable! And I guess the reflection problem is one you'd have anywhere unless someone has finally come up with some good reasonably priced glass that doesn't reflect light!

I did try replying to this a couple of days ago, but I think it it lost. It may be a while before you get to see the photos. Must be up to about 400 now! They'll all be RAW, so will need some processing doing. If you get bored while the other half's away, let me know!
Hope you're enjoying your mini-break at Chez Neil!
Sounds like you are enjoying yourself. Back home waiting for the guys to pitch so thought would ckeck emails and your blog. Look froward to seeing the photos.
