Japanese Dream - Day 0

By neil, 8 November, 2012

So it's been over 18 months since my last adventure from the Secret Location! Last time it was 3 weeks in Australia, this time I'm going East again, but keeping up north - I'm off to Japan! I'm currently sat in the business class (more on that later) lounge waiting for my first flight to the near-by Secret Stopping-Off Point, and given I won't be in Japan till tomorrow evening, this is being called Day 0!

Japan is somewhere I have wanted to visit for perhaps the last 21 years. It all stated when I had to do a school project in Year 6 on a country. For me Japan held 2 big interests - trains and technology! It was true back then, and it's still true today (no, I am not a train spotter - I just happen to enjoy travelling by train!) So given I am currently located part way there I though this would be as good a time as any to head over for a visit!

So Business Class... Why! When I started looking into the flights a few months back 1 airline appeared to be most sensible in terms of times and costs (even with a 14 hour layover on the way back!) However, they happen to be using the Airbus A380 for the flight to Tokyo. When you look at the seating plan it doesn't look nice... 429 people on the lower deck and it's a 3-4-3 seating arrangement. For a 12 hour flight, it just didn't look nice; so I decided to go for a bit of luxury! I have done longer flights in economy, but usually on aircraft with a 2-4-2 seating arrangement which I don't mind as much (I like an aisle seat on the outside set of seats.) No doubt there will be a blog entry later about the Business Class experience!

Anyway, time to sit back and relax! Probably update at the Secret Stopping-Off Point.
